Tomatoes especially tomato juice is one of the most useful vegetables because it considered a house of many important nutrients and mineral elements which is essential in maintaining overall body health.
Health benefits of tomatoes
Depending on its high content of vitamins, antioxidants, and minerals; tomatoes provide our bodies with a huge amount of benefits, as follows:
- It contains a bioactive compound called lycopene which is one of the carotenoids, and this compound plays a critical role in eliminating free radicals out of the body, hence; protect the cells from converting to cancerous ones.
- Tomatoes are rich in Potassium minerals that well known for their role in improving blood pressure levels and maintaining a healthy cardiovascular system.
- Some research studies confirmed that consuming tomato juice regularly helps in improving men’s fertility when compared with the group that depended on getting antioxidants from dietary supplements.
- In a 2015 study, results showed that consuming unsalted tomato juice helps greatly in lowering the triglycerides value in blood, however, there is also a most recent study which said that there is no change neither in TG nor in HDL levels in the patients how actually diagnosed with high blood fats value at the before undergoing this experimental study

Role of Tomatoes juice in lowering blood pressure
No doubt that the high blood pressure which known as (Hypertension) is one of the most common health disorders all over the world especially after the fifteenth, On the other hand; the natural product is the most useful to protect from hypertension and treating it without serious side effects.
In this context; there is a study that performed at Japan and published in 2019 in the journal of Food Sci Nutr. This study uncovered the role of the unsalted tomato juice in lowering high blood pressure and lowering the level of bad cholesterol (LDL) in the blood serum; thus decreasing the risk of cardiovascular serious diseases.
The study participants were 481 including 38.25 % men and 61.74 % women, the average age of the participants is 56 years, they were fed on 215 ml of tomato juice for approximately 92 days.
After analyzing all data of the participants such as who is at risk of cardiovascular disease, who had bad lifestyles, their body weights, ..etc.; the researchers found obviously that consuming unsalted tomato juice regularly in adequate amounts; helps in improving the level of systolic and diastolic blood pressure for the participants who previously had untreated prehypertension or untreated hypertension.
Furthermore, the study results showed that tomato juice also helps in lowering the low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL ـ bad cholesterol) in the participants who had untreated lipidemia, and at all, it protects from CVDs.
