The researchers injected these fat-fighting nanoparticles into obese mice, and the results showed that they lost 10 % of their body weight, plus blood lipids test results were in the normal range, such as Triglycerides, HDL cholesterol, and LDL cholesterol.

Plus, as we know that obesity may lead to diabetes because it decreases insulin sensitivity, but the results of using these new nanoparticles showed that it also succeeded in controlling mice’s insulin sensitivity.

It’s well known that mammals like mice can see in the visible region which begins from 380 nm and ends with 740 nm, so they can’t see anything in the infrared light region (above 740 nm) and they can’t see also in the ultraviolet region (Below 380 nm).

But in the current study, scientists at Science and Technology Chinese University in cooperation with some scientists from the United States succeeded in developing a type of nanoparticles that give mice the ability to see in the near-infrared region.

When the scientists injected the prepared nanoparticles into mice’s eyes; photoreceptor binding upconversion nanoparticles inside eyes allowed the injected mice to see in the dark.

The study depended mainly on the role of the prepared nanoparticles in converting the infrared light into green visible light, and this action allowed mice eye’ retinas to take images in the near-infrared light and this action also mimics the action of infrared goggles.

There are some confirming experiments that performed on mice’s physiological and behavioral reactions; to make sure that they indeed could see in the dark by using some additional techniques such as electroretinograms, single-photoreceptor recordings, and visual behavioral tests, and they confirmed that mice could actually see in the dark.

The study’s teamwork noticed that when they exposed mice to near-infrared light at low-power degrees; the eye’s pupils constricted at a point, while, there is no effect on the mice pupils when exposed to near-infrared light in the control group.

The study researchers gave additional information about their study results by saying:

We demonstrated that mice with these nanoparticles could not only perceive NIR light but also see NIR light patterns

The most important part of this study results is that researchers confirmed that this prepared nanoparticles didn’t interfere or leave any bad effect on the normal day vision.

New DNA Nanorobots Destroy Breast Cancer Cells – Recent Research Studies

According to many statistics; it is shown that nearly 20 % of breast cancer form very high levels of a protein called human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (shortly known as HER2), and this protein helps greatly in the uncontrolled proliferation of breast cancer cells, and for regret HER2 also resulted in the poor prognosis of this disease.

nowadays, some scientists have developed a new DNA nanorobot which has the ability to recognize and target the protein HER2 on the breast cancer cells, therefore, destroying them. And these results were reported in the journal of ACS Nano Letters.

The current treatments of HER2 breast cancer such as monoclonal antibodies work through binding to the HER2 protein and directing it to lysosomes for bio-degrading it. This type of treatment results in lowering HER2 levels, decreasing breast cancer cells proliferation and triggering cell death. But on another hand, these monoclonal antibody therapies leave very hard side effects and is very expensive.

New DNA Nanorobots Destroy Breast Cancer Cells

In other previous studies, scientists have identified a small sequence of DNA (aptamer) that have the ability to recognize and bind to HER2 proteins and targeting them to the lysosomes, But this aptamer is less stable in the blood (serum), So that, the scientists sought to know if adding a new DNA nanostructure (Tetrahedral framework nucleic acid – tFNA) could enhance the biostability and the anti-cancer properties of the aptamer.

To find this out, the study teamwork has designed new DNA nanorobots which consist of (tFNA + HER2 aptamer), and when these nanorobots were injected into the mice, it persisted in the blood for a long time nearly more than the twice as long as the aptamer alone. After that, the researchers tested the nanorobots on 3 breast cancer cell lines in-vitro, and it showed that these nanorobots killed the HER2 positive cancer cells only.

The results also showed that the tFNA increases the rate of binding of the aptamer to HER2, therefore, reducing the level of HER2 on the cell surface.

Conclusion
